Hot Dog Cupcakes

Nearly a year ago I posted about a softball team banquet that we hosted at our house where the theme of the party was hot dogs. Well, softball season is in full swing again so I could think of nothing better to make for our team captain on his birthday than hot dog cupcakes. To clarify, I made cupcakes with hot dog decorations, not cupcakes made out of hotdogs! I used a box mix for the cupcakes and tub of ready made frosting. For the decorations, I used caramels rolled into a hot dog shape and the bun was made by cutting a slit down the middle of a Circus Peanut candy. I used red and yellow tubes of frosting for the ketchup and mustard. I wish I could take credit for the idea of the hot dog, but I got my inspiration from So here are the finished products. And despite the fact that our team got obliterated on the field that day, off the field we by far had the best team snacks!

Hands-On Toddler Activity #27: Milk Painting

Age attempted: 3 years, 2 months
I was in the baking aisle of the grocery store when I remembered a project we have not tried yet, painting with condensed milk. Who thinks of this stuff? Well it's an easy enough activity to do. I used my baby food freezing molds to hold the palette of colors. I poured in some milk, my son added a few drops of food coloring, and then it was time to paint. When we were done, I put a cover on the paint and stuck it in the refrigerator so we could use it again later in the week.
