Hands-On Toddler Activity #26: Pudding Drawing

I haven't really felt the need to push Jack to start writing. He doesn't have the dexterity for it yet and he doesn't really enjoy drawing all that much right now. We've been working on other activities to strengthen his fine motor skills, all with the first priority of having fun with the added bonus of being a little educational or physically beneficial. Last week we did some pudding drawing and this is by far his most favorite activity we've done in a long time. Any activity that involves eating sweets seems to be his favorite though.

I made some pudding, spread a thin layer on a cookie sheet, then showed him on a piece of paper how to form certain letters and shapes. We practiced spelling his name, mom, dad, and his brother, Will's name. We also practiced drawing circles, squares, and triangles. He loved this activity, especially the part where he had to lick his fingers in between drawing letters.
